Terms of Use

Written by Mohapi · Published · Last updated

These terms govern your use of matriclink.co.za. They are deliberately short and written in plain language, because a set of terms nobody can read protects nobody. Using the site means you accept them. If you do not, please stop using the site.

1. What MatricLink is

MatricLink is a free, independent website providing an Admission Point Score calculator and written guides about higher education in South Africa. It is operated by a private individual, not a company, an institution or a government body.

It is an information service. It is not an application portal, not an admissions office, not a career counselling service, and not an agent for any institution. Nothing on this site places, registers or applies you anywhere, and MatricLink has no ability to influence any admission decision.

2. Accuracy, and its limits

Admission requirements in South Africa change every intake cycle. Faculties revise minimum scores, subject requirements shift, application windows move, and fees are adjusted. Requirements are also frequently set per programme rather than per institution, so any single figure attached to a whole university is a simplification by definition.

The figures here are checked against official sources and dated, and the process is described in the editorial policy. Even so:

Where a figure has not yet been confirmed against an official source, the page says so rather than presenting a guess as fact.

3. The calculator is an estimate

The APS calculator applies published scoring rules to the achievement levels you enter. It cannot see your actual National Senior Certificate, cannot verify anything with the Department of Basic Education or Umalusi, and does not know which specific programme you intend to apply for. Only the institution you apply to can calculate your official score and decide on your application. A result from this site has no standing with any institution.

4. Acceptable use

You may read, use, print and share this site freely, including linking to any page. You may not:

5. Intellectual property

The written guides, page structure, calculator code and design of this site belong to the site owner. Facts do not belong to anyone: admission requirements, NQF levels, closing dates and fee amounts are public information published by the institutions and government bodies concerned, and MatricLink claims no ownership of them. Institution names and logos belong to those institutions and are used here descriptively, to identify them, not to imply any relationship.

6. Links to other sites

This site links to university websites, government departments and funding bodies so you can verify things at source. Those sites are not controlled by MatricLink, and MatricLink is not responsible for their content, their accuracy, their availability or their privacy practices. A link is a pointer, not an endorsement.

7. Advertising

This site may display advertising served by Google. Advertisements are selected by Google's systems, not chosen or vetted by MatricLink, and their appearance is not a recommendation. Be particularly careful with advertisements for private colleges: check accreditation independently before paying anyone anything. How the advertising cookies work, and how to switch them off, is set out in the privacy policy.

8. Availability

This is a free site run by one person in their own time. It may be unavailable, incomplete or out of date at any point, and it may change or close without notice. No uptime is promised.

9. Limitation of liability

The site is provided as it is. To the fullest extent permitted by South African law, the site owner is not liable for loss or damage arising from your use of it, including from a missed deadline, an application that was declined, a fee paid, or a decision made on the basis of information that turned out to be outdated or wrong.

This does not attempt to exclude any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008. Nothing here limits your rights where the law says it cannot.

10. Found something wrong?

Reporting an error is genuinely useful and it gets acted on. The editorial policy explains how corrections are handled and how quickly, and the contact page tells you where to send it.

11. Governing law and changes

These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa. If any part of them is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. When they change, the "last updated" date above changes with them.
