The one-paragraph version

MatricLink is an independent website run by a private individual. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, licensed by, accredited by, or connected in any way to the Department of Basic Education, Umalusi, the Central Applications Office, the Department of Higher Education and Training, SAQA, the Council on Higher Education, the QCTO, NSFAS, or any university, university of technology, TVET college or private college. Nobody on this list has reviewed, approved or paid for anything you read here.

Why this matters more than the usual small print

Every year, learners lose money and lose a year of study to websites and "agents" that imply an official connection they do not have. Some charge a fee to "secure a place". Some take an application fee for an institution they have no relationship with. Some are simply an advert dressed up as advice.

So rather than burying independence in a footer, this page states it plainly and then explains who the real authorities actually are, so you can tell the difference between this site and them. Knowing which body does what is genuinely useful when you are trying to work out whether an institution is legitimate.

Who actually holds the authority

MatricLink relays what these bodies publish. It has no standing of its own. When this site and any of them disagree, they are right and this site is wrong.

Department of Basic Education (DBE)

Runs schooling to Grade 12 and administers the National Senior Certificate examinations. The DBE is the authority on your matric results, on rewrites and on remarks. education.gov.za

Umalusi

The quality council that assures and certifies the NSC. Your matric certificate is issued under Umalusi's authority, and Umalusi is where a certificate is verified. umalusi.org.za

Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET)

Oversees universities, TVET colleges and the registration of private higher education institutions. If a private college is legitimate, DHET registration is the thing to check first. dhet.gov.za

SAQA

Maintains the National Qualifications Framework. A qualification that is not on the NQF register is not a recognised South African qualification, whatever the brochure says. saqa.org.za

Council on Higher Education (CHE)

Accredits higher education programmes through its Higher Education Quality Committee. Institutional registration and programme accreditation are two different things, and a college can have one without the other for a given course. che.ac.za

QCTO

The quality council for occupational qualifications, including trades and artisan pathways. qcto.org.za

Central Applications Office (CAO)

The shared application service used by participating KwaZulu-Natal institutions. MatricLink cannot submit, track, amend or influence a CAO application. cao.ac.za

NSFAS

The national student financial aid scheme. Funding decisions are made by NSFAS alone. Nothing on this site affects an application, and NSFAS does not charge for applications. nsfas.org.za

The institutions themselves

Each university, university of technology and college sets its own admission requirements and makes its own decisions. Their published requirements override anything on this site.

What this site cannot do for you

Be clear about the limits before you rely on anything here:

Nobody pays for coverage

No institution has paid, sponsored, or been offered a placement on this site. There are no affiliate links and no referral commissions anywhere on MatricLink. Where an institution is described positively or critically, that is an editorial judgement, made by one person, and open to being challenged. This site does carry advertising, served by a third-party network called Monetag. Those adverts are selected automatically, are not vetted or endorsed by MatricLink, and appear on neither this page nor the privacy policy, terms, editorial policy or contact pages. See the terms of use, and the privacy policy for what the network collects.

If someone claims to represent MatricLink

MatricLink has no agents, no representatives, no recruiters, no WhatsApp groups and no branch offices. It will never phone you, never ask for your ID number or banking details, and never charge you for anything.

If anyone contacts you claiming to act for MatricLink, or asks for money in its name, that is a scam. Please report it so it can be flagged publicly.

Errors, and how they get fixed

This site will contain mistakes. Requirements change, sources move, and one person cannot re-check twenty-six institutions continuously. Where a figure has not been confirmed against an official source it is marked as unverified on the page rather than presented as fact. The editorial policy sets out how sources are chosen, how often pages are reviewed, and how corrections are handled once reported.
