About MatricLink

I built MatricLink because I remember sitting with a calculator and a PDF of a university's admission requirements, trying to work out my own APS by hand and getting a different number every time depending on whether I included Life Orientation. Every university seemed to explain it slightly differently, and the official handbooks weren't exactly written for a stressed matric learner trying to figure things out on a Sunday night. This site is the tool I wish I'd had.

What it does

Type in your seven subject marks and MatricLink works out your APS both ways (with and without LO), then checks that score against the published minimums for South Africa's public universities. It's not magic, it's just a calculator that's already loaded with the numbers so you don't have to go digging for them across a dozen tabs.

• A plain-language guide to actually applying, since the process differs depending on whether you're going through the CAO or applying directly.

A few honest disclaimers

I check the minimum APS figures against university handbooks and update them when I find changes, but I'm one person running this in my spare time, not a university admissions office. Cut-offs move around a little every year and sometimes a faculty changes its subject requirements without much notice. Treat the numbers here as a solid starting point, then confirm the final figure on the university's own site before you submit anything.
